What is a Packet?
A Packet, is a unit of data transmission usually associated with Layer 3, or the Network Layer. A packet contains addressing and control information. Packets are variable in length, with varying maximum and minimum sizes for different technologies.. Routers forward data based on the longest match of IP packet addresses.
