ASU Deploys Infoblox Appliances Campus-Wide To Deliver Essential Network Infrastructure Services

Infoblox Inc. today announced that Arizona State University (ASU) has installed and implemented Infoblox appliances throughout its network to deliver essential network infrastructure services, including internal and external domain name resolution (DNS), and IP address assignment and management (DHCP/IPAM).

The devices support the University’s network across its four campuses, ranging from Tempe and Phoenix to Mesa.

“As a research university, DNS plays a critical role in our day-to-day functions,” said Greg Wilson, Systems Architect and Project Manager of IT at ASU. “There are literally hundreds of domain name requests by our various academic groups and departments. The department buys the domain name and we add zones and customized services. This used to take hundreds of IT hours, but now, with Infoblox, the process is streamlined, delegated and easily managed within each university department.”

Wilson continued: “The greatest benefit of using Infoblox is the man-hour savings second only to the reliability. Now, using Infoblox, our students and faculty do not have to wait to make changes or add a new domain. Our staff can make changes as fast as they want them. And, when our students came back last August, we were extremely pleased how the appliances handled the sudden rush of network traffic.”

In 2010, after evaluating several vendors, ASU purchased 8 Infoblox appliances with Infoblox’s network services suite (NS1) and unique Infoblox Grid™ technology, which links together all the appliances into a unified system for simplified management and resiliency.

The Infoblox solutions scale to meet the most complex, distributed environments within the education sector, among others. The Infoblox DNS, DHCP and IPAM (DDI) appliances addressed all ASU’s requirements, including elimination of many manual tasks, automation of device and associated data management, and delegation of specific functions. And, with satellite campus plans in the near future, the IT department is equipped and prepared for the anticipated growth with Infoblox.
