INTRODUCTION

Infoblox NIOS 8.4.8 / 8.5.2 / 8.6.0. delivers advanced encrypted security and privacy for enterprises (DoT/DoH), expands multi-cloud automation and templated API integrations, and strengthens cost-effective DDI reliability for hybrid networks of any size—today and into the future.

NIOS 8.x BENEFITS HIGHLIGHTS

Enhanced Protection and Privacy

Advanced Enterprise Security

Enterprise DNS Encryption (DoT/DoH)

Infoblox Encrypted DNS (DoT/DoH)
NIOS 8.5.2 includes Infoblox Encrypted DNS, a feature that provides reliable, secure DNS encryption between client and recursive resolvers while delivering Infoblox best-in-class DNS services. Infoblox Encrypted DNS allows organizations to maintain control over their DNS by hosting their own DoT/DoH resolvers to provide security and content filtering per existing policy requirements.

FIPS 140-2/CC EAL 2 Updates

FIPS 140-2/CC EAL 2 Updates
NIOS 8.5.2 improves security with updated FIPS 140-2 Level 2 enhancements including physical tamper evidence and role-based authentication, as well as updates for Common Criteria EAL 2 requirements.

New Ecosystem Notifications

New Ecosystem Notifications
NIOS 8.6.0 adds additional outbound ecosystem notifications for DNS zone, record and unmanaged IP/device deletions for improved awareness and greater alerting to potentially impactful network operations events.

Increased Multi-Cloud Integration and Automation

Modernized Workplace Transformation

AWS vNIOS Expansion

AWS vNIOS Expansion
NIOS 8.5.2 expands AWS scalability through the larger TE-v4025 virtual appliance with IPv6 support. The larger appliance enables greater Queries Per Second (QPS) and Leases Per Second (LPS) scaling and capacity in AWS public cloud.

New Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) vNIOS Support

New Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) vNIOS Support
NIOS 8.5.2 introduces our first-ever OCI integration through vNIOS CP-2205. This feature allows customers to deploy vNIOS functionality on OCI and further extends cloud platform services for greater flexibility.

Added Upgrades and Integrations

Added Upgrades and Integrations
With these releases, NIOS also provides single NIC deployment on Google Cloud including on a shared VPC, Cisco ISE 2.6/2.7/3.0 updates, expands Network Insight discovery on SDN (Cisco ACI) and SD-WAN (Cisco Meraki and Viptela), supports KVM vNIOS for Red Hat CoreOS OpenShift and adds an update for VMware v7.6 vRA, all for extended usability and deployment options.

Improved Visibility, Reliability and Performance

Stronger DDI

Added CNAME Resolution in Apex A Records

Added CNAME Resolution in Apex A Records
NIOS 8.6.0 increases DNS resolution by enabling apex A records in complex Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) which aids in avoiding DNS failures and improves reliability for large enterprise customers with sophisticated public website configurations.

Enhanced DNS Scavenging

Enhanced DNS Scavenging
NIOS 8.6.0 advances cleanup and removal of outdated DNS resources by adding block-lists and last queried DNS time stamp record modifications to enhance processes and reliability for DNS scavenging.

New Hybrid HA Flexibility

New Hybrid HA Flexibility
When transitioning from physical to virtual environments, NIOS 8.6.0 now enables pairing of physical and virtual appliances for hybrid HA, improving reliability, redundancy and customer experience during migration.

ADDITIONAL KEY RELEASE ADVANTAGES

Improved Visibility, Reliability and Performance

Stronger DDI

DHCP Enhancements

NIOS 8.4.8 provides faster, more reliable DHCP Failover through database replication. It also delivers DHCP in Pure IPv6 DDNS Environments for improved flexibility and performance. NIOS 8.6.0 further offers DHCP Address Conflict Notification for faster conflict resolution, and Updated DHCP Fingerprinting for improved network device visibility and control.

Microsoft® Windows Server 2019 Support Update

NIOS 8.6.0 continues concurrent support for Microsoft Windows 2019 DNS and DHCP servers for enhanced network visibility, data sync and sharing, team collaboration and control.

Network Insight Device and Credential Grouping Enhancements

NIOS 8.6.0 simplifies workflows and saves time and money by assigning credentials by device groups using Infoblox Extensible Attributes (EAs), improving visibility and simplifying device management.

DTC Load Balancing Advancements

NIOS 8.6.0 equips DTC with new Consolidated Monitor Health Settings that enable all members to do health checks and share statuses. It also provides a new LBDN Query Configuration to support full health check updates for greater reliability. Finally, NIOS 8.6.0 offers new Source IP Hash Load Balancing to enable persistency during disconnect and reconnect events.

Anycast Configuration Upgrade

NIOS 8.4.8 increases reliability and user experience by allowing configuration of anycast and the DNS start/stop/restart sequence to eliminate potential DNS outages, enhance stability and improve user experience and flexibility.

New BIND Stats CLI Command

NIOS 8.6.0 offers a new CLI command that collects BIND data to improve data collection for troubleshooting and reduce the mean time to recovery.

Added Privacy, Security and Control

Extended Service Provider Capabilities

DNS Encryption (DoT/DoH) for Service Providers

In addition to the Enterprise DoT/DoH capability noted above, NIOS 8.5.2 delivers greater Service Provider workflow simplification and security through ultra-fast encrypted DNS that runs all CSP DNS standard features (e.g., vDCA, ADP, high-speed query logging and subscriber value-added services) from a single “service provider scale” DNS service.

New Proxy RPZ to Configured MSPs

NIOS 8.5.2 delivers faster Service Provider processing performance by proxying Response Policy Zones (RPZs) to configured MSPs. Infoblox enables URL filtering and DNS pre-filtering to eliminate extraneous traffic for faster performance.

New vDCA Proxy Policy Enforcement

NIOS 8.5.2 increases security by enabling policy enforcement on virtual DNS Cache Acceleration (vDCA) for Dynamic, Portal Content Publishing (PCP), IBM® WebSphere Portal Content Publishing (WPCP) and all traffic (Proxy-All).
