What is IPv4?

IPv4 is the version of the Internet Protocol (IP) most in use today, whose available IP addresses have run out, and are presently being systematically, albeit slowly, replaced by IPv6, the new Internet Protocol mandated for use in U.S. governmental agencies and being phased in throughout the world in stages.
