In order to make effective decisions and take appropriate actions to enforce security policies, a wide variety of systems are required to share data about users, devices, policies and behavior – so called network “metadata”. Today, gathering and sharing metadata among disparate systems is complex and costly.

In addition, many applications beyond network security can benefit from an open, standard-based method for collecting, correlating and distributing network metadata, especially as the number and types of IP-based devices and applications continues to skyrocket.

To meet this need, Infoblox, in conjunction with the Trusted Computing Group, has developed the open standard for sharing real-time network metadata: IF-MAP.

IF-MAP
IF-MAP is a new core network service, analogous to DNS, that allows virtually any system to share and receive meaningful information essential to bolstering network security, and eventually to enabling network location services, supply chain visibility and other applications.
