Clients and Servers use TCP port 853 to establish a TLS session to secure the DNS traffic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DNS over HTTPS<\/strong> (DoH) is a second IETF security protocol that addresses DNC client and DNS server communication security. Both DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS provide for encryption between the DNS client and the DNS server, enabling data privacy and integrity. However, DoH uses the same TCP port used by other HTTP-S traffic, Port 443.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6383\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"624\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-1.png 624w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-1-300x131.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/>In this blog, we will talk about how to configure DoT\/DoH on different browsers, OS and mobile devices.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>DoH configuration on Mozilla Firefox (MAC):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Menu bar of the Firefox browser, click Firefox and select Preferences.<\/li>\n<li>In the General panel, scroll down to <em>Network Settings<\/em> and click the <strong>Settings\u2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the dialog box that opens, scroll down to <em>Enable DNS over HTTPS<\/em>.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>On:<\/strong> Select the <strong>Enable DNS over HTTPS<\/strong> You can either choose <strong>a provider<\/strong> or <strong>set up a custom provider<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>It is suggested to choose a custom provider (Internal Resolver) as <\/em><em>external DNS Providers create problems such as lack of visibility and control, diminished subscriber experience and increased malware risk. This profile would direct the operating system to use DOH \/ DOT.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, in this example I am using one of the DNS Services namely NextDNS for using the encrypted DNS service on MAC BigSur,browse to <a href=\"https:\/\/apple.nextdns.io\/\">https:\/\/apple.nextdns.io\/<\/a> and enter the required information.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6388\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"624\" height=\"585\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-6.png 624w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dot-doh-config-6-300x281.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After downloading the profile, you need to go to the <strong>System Preferences\u2192Profile <\/strong>on your MAC and install it. Once you install the profile, the DNS servers mentioned in the profile would be used.
