This blog describes what it is, how it works and some of its key benefits.<\/p>\n<p>DTC already supports the most commonly available global server load balancing (GSLB) traffic distribution methods including Round Robin, Ratio, Topology and Global availability as noted below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Round Robin: <\/strong>Directs client traffic to servers in a pool or among pools (in a multiple pool configuration) using an equal weighting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5988 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-1-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-1-75x75.png 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ratio: <\/strong>Like Round Robin, the Ratio method allocates client traffic to servers in a pool or among pools using a custom weighting (e.g., 40:30:30), also known as Weighted-Round Robin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5989 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-2-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-2-75x75.png 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Topology: <\/strong>Routes network traffic to a server or pool based on geo-location rules and Extensible Attributes (EAs\u2014user defined metatags) based on the client\u2019s IP matching a geo map (external) or a subnet (internal or external).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5990 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-3-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-3-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-3-75x75.png 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Global Availability: <\/strong>Enables prioritized load balancing whereby client traffic is directed to the first server or pool on a list (e.g., go to x first, then y, then z). If the first prioritized resource becomes unavailable, Global Availability will then direct client traffic to the resource in the list, and so on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5991 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-4-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-4-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-Source-4-75x75.png 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Infoblox DTC performs load balancing requests including <strong>TCP<\/strong> which considers the methods noted above and weighting criteria to direct an incoming request to a server or pool. Now, with the newest load balancing methodology, Source IP Hashing, DTC performs a run-time calculation and generates a static client hash key to route queries to a particular server or pool. This method delivers application persistency and a more reliable user experience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Source IP Hash Load Balancing and How It Works \u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Infoblox DTC Source IP Hashing\u00a0 is a load balancing method that routes traffic based on a client\u2019s IP address, LBDN and server availability. DTC allocates requests from the same client to the same backend server (providing that it\u2019s available) by generating a unique hash key and routing the request to a particular pool or server. Further, if a customer has multiple DNS resolvers running DTC, the \u201cconsolidated health monitor\u201d feature ensures that all of the DNS resolvers send the same IP to a client. \u00a0Source IP Hash load balancing matches the functionality of other more expensive marketplace Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs) to improve resiliency, user experience, avoid application interruptions and ensure workflow continuity.<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6000 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.infoblox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-source-10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1340\" height=\"624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-source-10.png 1340w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-source-10-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-source-10-1024x477.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.infoblox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DTC-source-10-768x358.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1340px) 100vw, 1340px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Advantages\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Simple configuration through the DTC UI.<\/li>\n<li>DTC persistence to the same application if connection is lost so the client can continue in the same active application.<\/li>\n<li>DTC persistence if the client moves from one site to another without interruption.<\/li>\n<li>DTC\u2019s \u201cconsolidated health monitor\u201d enables DTC response persistence across multiple DNS resolvers.<\/li>\n<li>DTC delivers improved redundancy and performance in multi-virtual machine environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With the addition of the Source IP Hashing load balancing methodology, Infoblox strengthens DTC and improves the flexibility, resiliency and user experience while helping to avoid application interruptions and ensure DTC persistence and workflow continuity to the same application.
