The turn out was quite good with several hundred people in attendance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Many excellent presentations were delivered, including those from such\u00a0Internet luminaries as\u00a0Dr. Vint Cerf of Google and John Curran from ARIN.\u00a0Myself and my colleague Paul Ebersman both had the privilege of delivering well-received talks. I&#8217;ll be sure to post links to presentations as they become available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the meantime, here are some\u00a0key statistics related to IPv6 adoption that were presented by APNIC scientist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.potaroo.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s1\">Dr. Geoff Huston<\/span><\/a>\u00a0at the ISOC INET conference, just prior to the summit itself:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Demand for IPv4 addresses has been in the range of 200M per year historically\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\">By the end of 2014 reduced supply and increasing demand for IPv4 will result in a shortfall of nearly 1B addresses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">It&#8217;s taken the US 2 years of geometric growth to get IPv6 to 2.5% as a percentage of overall Internet traffic\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\">At that rate it will take 80 years for IPv6 traffic levels to reach 100%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">1.2% of users accessed Google over IPv6<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Romania has nearly 10% of its population using IPv6<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Average usage of IPv6 across the Internet is at 1.2%\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Only 10 of the 200 or so countries around the world constitute that average<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">50% of the world&#8217;s transit ISPs support IPv6\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Meanwhile, 56% of ISPs in North America don&#8217;t support IPv6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">50% of the hosts connected to the Internet have support for IPv6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">These statistics suggest that, in spite of tremendous progress, those of us evangelizing IPv6 adoption and a true end-to-end Internet have our work cut out for us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a02013 North American IPv6 Summit\u00a0wrapped up last Friday with\u00a0Infoblox\u00a0sponsoring for the\u00a0second year in a row.
