Have you upgraded to NIOS 6.7? If so, you now have DHCP Fingerprinting available, providing visibility to what types of devices are on your network. You can create\u00a0Smart Folders<\/em>\u00a0to quickly see information about these devices. Smart Folders are an extremely powerful and flexible way to quickly gain visibility and organize IPAM data.<\/p>\n

To begin, after logging into the Infoblox Grid, navigate to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Smart Folders > My Smart Folders<\/em>, and click\u00a0Create<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  2. Change the\u00a0Name<\/em>\u00a0to \u201cMicrosoft Windows Devices\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. Select the search criteria:\u00a0DHCP Fingerprint Class<\/em>\u00a0– equals – Windows.<\/li>\n
  4. Click\u00a0Apply<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Very shortly, you should see clients populate in the Smart Folder if you have Microsoft Windows devices on your network.<\/p>\n

    Click\u00a0Save<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    Now create several other Smart Folders, using the following information:<\/p>\n

    \ufffcName:\u00a0Gaming Console Devices<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0DHCP Fingerprint Class<\/em>\u00a0equals\u00a0Gaming Consoles<\/em><\/p>\n

    Name:\u00a0Apple Mac OS Devices<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0DHCP Fingerprint Class<\/em>\u00a0equals\u00a0Macintosh<\/em><\/p>\n

    Name:\u00a0Router and Wireless Access Point Devices<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0DHCP Fingerprint Class<\/em>\u00a0equals\u00a0Routers and APs<\/em><\/p>\n

    Name:\u00a0Smartphone, PDA, Tablet Devices<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0DHCP Fingerprint Class equals Smartphones\/PDAs\/Tablets<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Here are two more recommended Smart Folders:<\/p>\n

    Name:\u00a0Conflicts<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0Conflict<\/em>\u00a0equals\u00a0Yes<\/em><\/p>\n

    Name:\u00a0Unmanaged<\/em>
    \nSearch criteria:\u00a0Unmanaged<\/em>\u00a0equals\u00a0Yes<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    The\u00a0Conflicts<\/em>\u00a0Smart Folder will show discovered devices that do not match existing IP address data.<\/p>\n

    The\u00a0Unmanaged<\/em>\u00a0Smart Folder will show discovered IP addresses that do not have corresponding records on the grid (A records, PTR records, fixed addresses, host records, leases, etc.).<\/p>\n

    When you are done, the Smart Folders should appear like this:<\/p>\n

    New installations of NIOS 6.7 (or later) have these Smart Folders pre-configured. They are not automatically created when upgrading to NIOS 6.7, to avoid potential conflicts with existing user created Smart Folders.<\/p>\n

    There are quite a few additional DHCP Fingerprint Smart Folders that you could create.\u00a0Choose DHCP Fingerprint Class<\/em>, and examine the\u00a0Choose One<\/em>\u00a0dropdown list to see all the available classes.
