Gartner just released its annual report on the DDI market, and we liked it so much that we\u2019ve purchased online reprint rights. You can read the report now \u2013 with our compliments and without having to register or otherwise give up personal information \u2013 at\u00a0www.infoblox.com\/gartner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The report, \u201cMarket Guide for DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management (DDI),\u201d evaluates ten DDI vendors, including Infoblox. Gartner\u2019s licensing rules prevent us from quoting what they say about us, so I can only encourage you to see for yourself.<\/p>\n

Gartner analysts\u00a0Andrew Lerner<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Christian Canales<\/a>, who wrote the report, do an excellent job of explaining how DDI helps makes enterprise networks more reliable and agile, while also reducing costs.<\/p>\n

However, there is one paragraph in the report that clashes with our view of the world:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DDI market is mature, and we estimate global revenue in the $400-million to $450-million range, with a 4% to 10% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next 24 months . . . In addition, there is substantial market saturation at the high end; Gartner estimates that more than 85% of the 500 largest global enterprises utilize commercial DDI solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t believe the DDI market is mature, for reasons that Gartner describes elsewhere in the report: \u201cWe are beginning to see an early-stage trend whereby organizations that have deployed a commercial DDI solution are now looking to expand it. The two primary use cases for this expansion include internal cloud deployments and increased infrastructure security.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking further down the road, the report adds: \u201cThe Internet of Things (IoT) and software-defined networking (SDN) have not substantially driven the market to date, but we anticipate they will impact the market in the two- to three-year time frame.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps it all comes down to definitions. We at Infoblox are glad to embrace the label of \u201cmature\u201d if it\u2019s defined as \u201cin one\u2019s prime\u201d and \u201con top of the game\u201d with room for growth ahead.<\/p>\n
