NIOS Installation Tutorial
The Infoblox NIOS Installation Tutorial is an instructional tutorial designed for an Infoblox SE to train Channel Partner SEs to meet the following customer installation objectives:
  1. Understand and be able to articulate the value of the Infoblox solution, what differentiates Infoblox from alternatives, and how we support solutions like AD, IPAM, NAC, and VoIP
  2. Do a simple single unit evaluation installation, rack mount, power up, get IP address on unit, login, and simple data migration using tool
  3. Do a HA unit evaluation installation, rack mount, power up, get IP address on unit, login, and simple data migration using tool
  4. Build a 2 or 3 box ID Grid
  5. Perform a simple import of DNS, DHCP & IPAM, and TFTP data using the Data Import Wizard
  6. Basic setup of all services including DNS, DHCP & IPAM, TFTP, RADIUS Proxy, and NTP
  7. Do the critical data collection that would enable anybody to do a design
  8. Configure system properties for logging and alerts via SNMP, email, and syslog
  9. Configure system properties and security settings including management timeout, banners, and SSHv2
  10. Configure IPAM: DHCP lease history and device classification
  11. Configure administrators and basic authorization
  12. Schedule daily or weekly database backups
  13. Restore database and understand the process

This course is required for achieving Certified Infoblox Engineer Level 1 certification.

Setup and Initial Configuration

Administrator Setup
  • Create an Administrator account in the Admin Group
  • Create a non-Admin account
  • Logout as Admin and login with user account
  • Define appropriate settings for NTP, Time Zone, and Session Timeout
Data Import Wizard
  • Sample data imports for multiple data sources
  • Try a number of sample files and import into standalone devices
  • Load customer dataset into device (10K records maximum)
Basic DHCP Setup
  • Configure a DHCP network
  • Verify that PC can get a DHCP lease
  • Convert PC’s address from dynamic to static
Basic DNS Setup
  • Set up a DNS zone in the Default View
  • Enter a HOST record with PC’s static IP address and MAC address
  • Verify that address can be resolved
IP Address Management (IPAM) Overview
  • Add IP classification information to a device
  • Filter, search, and go to an IP address
Device Properties
  • Modify PC’s DNS HOST record to add Location, Type, etc.
  • Open the DHCP Perspective and select the PC host
  • The Host Properties page should show the additional data fields
Lease History, Active Leases
