1. Q: How is the VMware virtual appliance NetMRI different than the physical appliance?
A: Other than the lack of a physical box, there is no difference. In the virtual appliance you still get the OS, the software, and the packaged database.

2. Q: How is the 30 day trial VMware downloadable version of NetMRI different than the actual purchased product?
A: There is no difference between the VMware downloadable version of NetMRI and the purchased product. The downloadable version can be evaluated for 30 days and monitors up to 25 network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and 1,000 interfaces. And, if needed, the same software that is downloaded can be licensed for more devices, without the need to download and/or install new software. You simply purchase a new license for more devices. Please contact us to add additional licenses.

3. Q: How many network devices can I monitor with the trial download version of NetMRI?
A: Up to 25 network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and 1,000 interfaces can be monitored.

4. Q: How long can I use the trial version of NetMRI?
A: You have 30 days from the date of licensing to evaluate NetMRI.

5. Q: What do I do if I need to monitor more network devices?
A: You can contact us and purchase a license for additional devices. You simply switch out the license key in order to enable the same, already installed software to monitor more network devices.

6. Q: What are the system requirements for NetMRI?
A: Please locate your installation's requirements:

NetMRI Virtual Appliance VMware System Requirements
License Size Recommended Configuration
Devices Interfaces VMware HyperVisor* Process Cores** Memory Local Disk Storage***
25 500 ESX 4.0 (1) 2.4GHz 1GB 20GB
50 1,000 ESX 4.0 (1) 2.4GHz 1GB 40GB
200 10,000 ESX 4.0 (2) 2.4GHz 2GB 100GB
600 30,000 ESX 4.0 (4) 2.4GHz 4GB 250GB

2,000 100,000 ESX 4.0 (8) 2.4GHz 6GB 750GB
3,000 150,000 ESX 4.0 (8) 2.4GHz 7GB 1,200GB

* It is strongly recommended that a customer not use anything but VMware ESX in production. Other VMware HyperVisor choices in order of preference are: ESX 4.0 (most preferred), ESX 3.5, Server 2, Workstation 6.5 (least preferred).

** Performance can be impaired with other applications running on the same VM server as NetMRI, especially if the number of processor cores assigned to NetMRI is greater than half of the total processor cores on the VM server.

*** Disk performance is a critical factor for performance. The more spindles dedicated to NetMRI, the better. In particular, low Average Seek Times of 4 milliseconds or better will produce the best results. This is typically obtained by high disk spindle speeds (15,000 RPM) and dedicated spindles, perhaps achieved with specialized RAID configurations. Sharing Spindles and/or LUNs between NetMRI and other applications is likely to compromise performance and is strongly discouraged.
